Tranny questions 850 95

1995 850 wagon, automatic, NON turbo....put it in drive, step on gas, hesitation, then it seems that the tranny engages with a lunge....I am afraid to go to the local "transmission shop"...they always seem like the places you see on 60 Minutes where they rip off innocent customers...If I bring it to Volvo, I will have to give them my first born to pay for the analysis....Any suggestions to help me be a more "educated consumer"? Explain what might be happening, thus I can weed through all the stuff everyone will want to sell me. Thanks, Alan
