The pressostat is replaceable without losing R234a. But, shorting the wire will always engage the compressor clutch. If the pressostat fails, the clutch will never engage, and, I think you said that the clutch does engage for a little while.

You could run the clutch for 3-5 minutes and see if both black lines get very cold and sweat. Both cold indicates plenty of gas in the system and probably faulty pressostat. I do not have the Ohm readings for measuring resistance in the switch.

You need to find out how much pressure is in your system. If it is less than 20psi, then the pressostat will not engage the clutch.

I know, you used one of those cans with the dinky little gauge on it. Well, they error on the safe side so that yellow is really green and red is yellow. Put the can in the sun for 5 minutes, connect it up with the AC switched on, and let the dial get to the red. If the clutch still fails to engage, then it could be a bad pressostat.
