I doubt that using a K&N filter will make any noticeable difference in the longevity of your engine.

It will allow as much or more dirt through than most paper filters, and it has been stated that in continuous running in exceptionally dirty conditions, they did not perform well. However, in street use, I've never heard of anyone losing an engine because of using K&N filters.

(I have heard of losing an engine using no filter)
