Idle problem 850 1996

Owner of a Volvo 850-SE 5252s engine with automatic transmission, 75000 km on the meter. Have Lately experienced problem with high idle revs (2000-2500), even jumping revs from 1000 up to 2500(acting like an old diesel engine with a worn-out regulator). Have reset the system three times by disconnect the battery, then will the engine behave normal, but after 500 km the problem starts again when the “computer” turn back to normal. Been in contact with dealer technicians as told me that some of the 850’s from this year having this problem, and told me a modification kit available. Now my question, have anyone experienced this problem, and when not equipped with thumbs in the middle of my hands would be nice to know if it is possible to do anything by my self to solve this.
