Tire Pressure S40-V40 2000

Okay, I know I have seen this talked about, but couldn't find it in the archives. So here we go again.

What is the recommended tire pressure for the S40. I have the stock Michelin tires that came on the car (US). The owners manual said to look at the inside of the gas cover. I used those numbers and subtracted 4psi as the tires were "cold". (Again, following the manual.) I will measure them again tonight when the tires are "hot" from driving, as I couldn't yesterday. The number printed on the tire is much higher and I wondered which was right.

I'm sure all of you will have some good input.

Thanks in advance :)
