Stalling at red lights and high ext. temp V70-XC70 1998

My 1998 V70R - 197k: Just drove from Chicago to Salt Lake City and everything seems fine. Parked in SLC for a week, came back and noticed that the exterior temperature gauge (not the engine/oil) was reading high, above 100, though it was in the upper 80s/low 90s. I thought, that's a bummer but certainly shouldn't effect drive-ability. Then the past two days, during a drive to the store, the engine stalled while at a red light. I was able put in neutral and quickly restart, but now I'm thinking these two things are related. Thanks for any advice concerning this matter.

Thanks,

Wes L.
