Re: Air Pump Question 850 1995

The air pump is is automatically started if your car is cold, the air pump directs air into the exhaust via the SAS valve. This extra air is used to heat up the cataylic converter faster and get the car into emissions standards faster. The engine computer turns on a solenoid that lets the engine vacuum open the Secondary Air System valve (SAS) and direct the out put of the air pump into the exhaust. It will only run for about 2 minutes upon start up with a cold car.
