Another TRACS OFF/ ABS issue 850 96 R

I have been reading about other Brick'ers with this same issue on their 850's and am now seeing the issue myself with mine.

I dropped off my car earlier today to have the 60k service performed and told them about this problem. A moment ago, I was told by Lawrence Volvo in CA, that the ABS Control Unit is bad and that it is going to run me $400 +labor.... roughly coming out to $550 according to my advisor.

I do have the VIP Extended Warranty, but this is not covered, I was told.

I declined to have the problem fixed, obviously because the 60k service is around $400-500 dollars, another $550 on top of that and I am out my next paycheck.

Question for all: Someone mentioned a possible Class-Action against Volvo for this blantantly obvious defect, is there anything happening on this?

If not, anyone have a less costly remedy?

Thanks for any feedback,

John
