Steering Radius... really wide... FWD 'issue' ??? C70 1998

I keep meaning to ask about this. The c70 is my first FWD volvo and it really shocks me as to how large the steering radius really is. I can turn my 940 around in the middle of my street. My c70 can't do it. I have to watch where I try and park, because it I always have to pull forward and backup just to slide into a standard parking space.

Is this normal, or an issue related to the condition of my CV joints? I get a little "creak" on hard turns. I've read that failing bearings in the CV joints can be a cause of such noise.

In fact, I have a pair of replacement axles ready to install (when the weather becomes a little more benign or the problem starts to sounds serious). The boots are in great shape, but it's hard to say what's going on under them...

Is the wide turning radius normal for FWD/AWD, or an indicator of a more serious problem?
