Mechanic question V70-XC70

Totally. Shop around. A new compressor?? The clutch can be re-shimmed, unless the compressor is making a lot of bearing noise.

Timing belt at a dealer is less than $500 and includes both belts, a tensioner, and some rollers. New axle, not just boot, can be purchased for $150 and is a 1 hour job. Never get just a new boot, it won't last for a year and is more labor intensive to replace.

If I needed a 'new' compressor, I would go to a junk yard and get a used one. The system has to be evacuated and recharged, you also need to replace the accumulator whenever the system is open to air ($45).
