Problems after clearing clogged EGR 850

I used a lot of Mystery oil on the EGR when trying to get that stubborn
critter apart. The problem seems that the last 1/16 inch of the EGR pipe
was distorted and wedged hard into the egr valve body.
On reassembly I needed to cut the tip of the pipe off close to the end of the ferrule to catch a thread to reassemble. If there's no heat issue there, I'd consider cutting that pipe a short distance from the EGR and use the right
size rubber hose and clamps, because that was such a PIA. Then next time it would be easier to get the EGR valve out. How frequently should the EGR port
be cleaned? and I wonder if any crud stuck in the manifold could get loose
into the engine and raise hell?

When I first started the car, after the job, it raced some then settled down.

Does that sound normal?

Bill
