mileage calculation S60 2004

Not quite rocket science. The computer relys on the time the injectors are open (fuel used) and miles driven. This provides reasonable accurate 'average' consumption.

You should be clearing out the average mpg whenever you tank up as well as the trip computer.

Idling at a standstill will reduce the average mpg displayed because of zreo speed, some manufactures are better at this than others. My MB doesn't like it when I reverse down the driveway, the calculation starts at 25mpg and is 18mpg by the time I put the car in Drive. But after 600 miles, the fillup calculation is pretty close to the amount shown on the computer.

Check your tire pressure and do not use 87 octane.
