Can't get VIP extended warranty beyond 36K! V70-XC70 98AWD

With 36,440 miles on my '98 V70AWD, I decided to call VIP and find out when they were going to send me info about possibly getting the VIP warranty. The basic new car warranty runs out this coming August. They said, "we're sorry, since November 1st we no longer issue VIP policies to cars with more than 36,000 miles on them." I never received any mailings from Volvo about the VIP at all during the 3 years I leased this car. I had included the warranty as part of my decision making about whether or not I'd buy the vehicle out of lease (which I did). Now I'm out on a limb, so to speak.
