mileage calculation S60 2004

Yes, I broke out the user's manual... but only as a last resort. Found the "reset" button where it's been hiding for the past 6 years... Reset, presto! Calculated mpg went up to 29.4 on a 20-mile drive. I'm still going to do the plugs this weekend. Also, I found a free 28MB .pdf file of the wiring diagrams for the 2004 S60/S80 (just googled it) and plan to "hot-wire" (but make sure it's fused) the power-points so that they will be on even when key is out. This is another one of those things about the Volvo: why can't I leave my GPS or cell phone in the car to charge up while I'm out? My Explorer's power points are always on. Any tips from people who've done this before? If the answers in the manual I'll be suitably chagrined...
