Volvo procedure really? 850 1994

I thought Haynes manual describes Volvo procedures. Basically, you drain from the drain plug. Then, you put it back on. You then remove the battery and the other craps and open the line from the radiator to AT. Then, you add some ATF. Then start the car and pump the ATF out. Repeat.

If pumping the ATF out through the drain plug is ok, why neither Volvo nor Haynes do it that way? It's definitely much easier for sure.

I won't do it this way myself. I've been using the modified way of draining through the top radiator hose.
