The fix is really easy. You can purchase a new mirror (not the entire assembly - just the mirror) from your local dealer, and install it in 5 minutes.

It has been a couple of years since I replaced mine, so this is the best I can do from memory.

Adjust the mirror to one extreme (inward/outward) so that you can use your fingertips to pry the mirror away from its mounting plate. If your mirror is heated, there will be a wire attached to it. Remove the wire, and install your new mirror.
