I have put over 200,000 trouble free miles on my '94 base 855M. These are good engines. I like my 855 as well or better than any previous 4cyl Volvo. It is the first one I have owned that is still leak free after 200k. In fact, the engine compartment really doesn't look any worse than my other car which now has 20k miles on it!

If you get rid of it, do it for reasons other than fear of engine failure.
