Unexplained brief rpm drop S70 1998

Can't figure this one out.

When stopped at a traffic light, I'm experiencing a brief (one second) rpm drop, almost like someone put a heavy load on the engine such as a/c engagement, but it is not the a/c compressor turning on.

This may be conincidence, but it seemed to occur more when the fuel tank had 1/4 or less of fuel in it. Now it is occurring more frequently independant of fuel level in the tank. It is getting to the point where I'm concerned it may stall.

This vehicle has 300,000 Kms on it and had been routinely serviced by a good, reputable garage.

Any ideas?
