Looking for another car

Mates:
Spouse's '92 960 wagon is finally driving us nutz with all the trips to the shop over the PNP / kickdown switch / whatever-parts-haven't-been-replaced-yet syndrome, so we're shopping.

Among the cars on the horizon presently is an '07 XC90 3.2, advertised as with "Geartronic" automatic 6-speed, at a price well above whata I paid for either of the first two houses I bought.
Anybody have:
Suggestions re what to look for, especially re dealer chicanery / cover-ups
Warnings about problems likely to be encountered with this model
Data on how poor the gas mileage really is
A real hankering for a '92 960 wagon in case we bite the bullet on another vehicle?
