belt tensioner replacement - $233..after belt replacement 850 1995

I had the serpentine belt replaced($88) three weeks ago at the dealer and after that everytime I started the car I would hear a squealing noise for a couple of minutes before the noise would go away..I told the dealer that something is not right after they replaced the belt and when I took it back they told me I needed a new belt tensioner and that the bearings had gone bad in the tensioner..the car has 57000 miles and seems premature for this thing to go out. i have the old part and new part looks a little different..Anyone else have similar experience or was I taken for a ride...How do I prolong the life of this tensioner ..is there some maintence I should have done to make it last longer..

thanks
