Thanks for the comprehensive response. I can do the engine investigation, but will need a shop to do the leak down test.
By the way, I am really not that engine savvy, but I am do the research when these recommendations are made. As far as the PCV, I did the remove/ install, and really don't want to do that again...hated dealing with removing the manifold.
As far as the tranny, how is it that you feel the rpm and oil consumption may be related?
