Odd rhythmic buzzing noise S40-V40 2001

2001 S40, 3500 miles, runs well. I have noticed since the beginning that when the car is started up there is a humming whine that seems to come from the front of the car or possibly in the dash that lasts a second or two then goes away then several seconds later comes again. This seems to only happen when the car is cold as it goes away after driving a short while. Is this the climate control system warming up? Or something else? I just want to be sure it is supposed to be there. It is a very quiet humming.
