cruise control buttons S60 2002

my daughter called to report that the buttons for the cruise control have stopped working. evidently the 'slow down' hasn't worked for a while, but the 'set/accel' just stopped working.

does anyone have experience with this issue. she thinks one of the buttons is stuck in place so i was wondering whether they just need a good cleaning. i suspect this would mean that the steering wheel has to be disassembled to some extent. with an airbag in side, i'm not excited about it.

i'd appreciate any input available.
thanks in advance.
