Newbee owner with some questions 850 1994

Been looking at these cars and reading the websites for over a year and

finally jumped last weekend..traded my Toyota truck and a little cash for an absolutely cherry '94 850.

Talked to the one owner..a lady who admitted she never took care of the engine until it burned up about two years ago..I ran the VIN with the dealer and his records confirm her story..problem is that she can't remember where she had the new engine installed..said it only had 2800 miles on it. So, QUESTION 1: is there a VIN stenciled on the engine or else a serial number or something that I could run somewhere that would give me the history on that piece of the puzzle? If so, where is it? QUESTION 2: does every 850 blow out the evaporator annually or is there some trend to this problem?
