switching heater on can be felt in engine vibration 850 1995

As i turned on my heater fan i noticed the engine idle to roughen. Checking it compared to switching it on with the defroster on i noticed the same thing. I know the Ac is supposed to kick in when the defrost is on and a slight roughness when the compressor engaged would not be suprising--but i didnt think it engaged when set for heating the floor? Is this normal or have i discovered a short that might explain all the early death of AC i read about here???
