Electronic Throttle Module "Recall' (surging, power loss, limp mode)

The recall for the ETM is indeed 10 years and 200K miles, for the USA. Just remember that the 10 year period starts when the original buyer took delivery and most Volvos with the problem were 1999-2000. Most cars are now too old to qualify.

There is an excellent replacement to the factory ETM offered by a Canadian firm, www.xmodex.com Any competent DIY novice can remove the ETM, ship it to Canada, and put the updated module back in the car. No software download is needed, and the ETM is covered for life of the car. All for around $500US.
