If its an NA (I think the turbo '95 is OBD only, but not sure) she should be able to read codes herself. She can also likely clear codes too that way. See here:

If its turbo it might not have the diagnostics, but have her check to see if its there anyway, because it will help. She can also go to a autoparts store and have them check/clear the codes, and write them down. I wouldn't recommend going to the mechanic until you know what you're going in for, and that its something she can't fix herself. Many codes can also just be reset without significant problems so she could drive it back to you, like around christmas break.. Some aren't a huge bother (like gross evap leak) if its leaking at the canister. Of course, some are but if she's not really experiencing issues, it might be easier to live with the light for a short while...
