Does a 1996 850 have an "interference engine' (about timing belt...) 850 1996

yes, it has an interference engine. Also, volvo recommends you change it every 70k miles, not 62.. So perhaps you have time..

I should add, you can pull off the cover and check the belt for cracks, rounded/broken teeth, or oil contamination. If you're feeling gutsy you can run the engine a bit and see if you hear the tensioners squealing. If it has any signs of failure you should change, belt and rollers. FCP has the kit for 200, and a 15% off through the rest of today. If you need the waterpump (leaks around the pump, or play in the pulley=replace, otherwise you're probably fine) the kit isn't that much more and it comes with new seals..

Hopefully you won't have to pawn it all :-(

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?
