I'm not particularly knowledgable about the 2001's, but I do know that there is a software update available for your transmission at Volvo dealers (and maybe elsewhere). If it was my car I'd look into ASAP.

A tranny flush and replacement with the recommended synthetic ATF is a good idea too.
