I suspect your car has an IAC and you should clean that out with throttle body cleaner and give it a good spray with WD-40 before putting it back in.
Probably a water treatment and Seafoam and "Italian Tune-up" would be worth-while.
The intake system should be smoke tested to look for leaks. You can either build your own smoke machine and DIY it or get it done at a shop.
You could follow the procedure (posted twice on this forum recently) for test the O2 sensors as well:
