Synthetic vs dino oil V70-XC70 2001

I have always equated chronic oil burning to the person who broke in the engine originally. Rings not seated properly, etc.

Changing to synthetic will not make a whole lot of difference to the T5 initially, but is better for the engine in the long run. Switch oil with a new Mann filter as soon as you can. Supply the trunk with 2 quarts of oil and a dozen paper towels so your daughter can check the oil when she tanks up with gas.

Of course, she should also be using at least 89 octane. Running 87 octane will result in higher cylinder temps, along with poorer mileage, that could cause premature valve stem seal failure.

The car should NEVER be run with the oil 2 quarts low. So long as your daughter keeps the car in your marine climate, 10W30 is also an option.
