Interior tailgate handle???? V70-XC70 2001

We tossed our 12 year-old in the way-back the other night, left the car to go to a movie and noticed he was smacking the window saying "Let me out!"....Didn't realize Volvo dropped the interior tailgate handle. My 1998 XC had this--and I did not have a third seat either. Is this the same on all 01 V70's--or you only get the interior handle if you have the third seat option???????????????????
