What could cause car to stop running? 850

This is not a 1991 240, the ECU is NOT prone to failure. All of the dash lights come on when the engine dies and the key is in position II, so that isn't going to help.

When the fuel pump relay fails, the pump stops. Best check is to turn the key to pos II and listen for the pump whirring for a couple of seconds. No pump noise suggests the relay. You can pull the relay, #103 under the fuse box cover, and jump connections 15 & 87 which will activate the fuel pump when the key is in posII, but don't drive that way! A paper clip will get very hot!

Buy yourself a folding Torx driver set to keep in the glove box or center console. $5 well spent. You will need it to get the fuse cover off.
