UPDATE: Not the lifters! Its the rods!New engine? 850 1997

This is just a little update on everything.  Unfortunately, I spoke to the dealer and they say that the cylinder walls are damaged.  The engine would need to be rebuilt or have a new one put in. So all sounds good so far until the advisor tells me that he spoke to VIP and they would not send out an adjuster to check out the car unless they can prove why the rods on cyl #1 and #5 bent. With all that said, the advisor told me that they currently only have the oil pan/lower portion of the engine off. They would need to take apart the ENTIRE engine to find out why those 2 rods bent. The problem is that VIP said that they would not cover the repair (labor/parts) if the tech finds that the cause of the bent rods was not internal. For example, they say the only reason they can think of a rod bending is if water was sucked up into the engine (anybody know about that??). It the water was the reason the rods bent, VIP will NOT cover ANYTHING which would mean all the hours of labor to take the engine apart would all lay on my shoulders. Thats about another 7-8 hours of labor that I would be charged. It already took 2 hours to get the oil pan off. I just don't have that kind of money! ANY ideas on what I should do? Should i say go ahead and tear apart of the engine or what? Thanks for letting me vent.... TIA
