Re: Noisy Engine S70 1999

It is not that they want it to leak, but that it is a machined surface seal with no gasket and thermal distortion will allow some cold surface mismatch. The leak is small but is audible is you accelerate next to a building.

The amount of leak is no more than on many exhaust manifolds against cast iron heads on engines using no gasket in this area. It poses no problem unless you have a hole in the firewall and is only going to leak for a minute anyway with a low volume seeping by.

The 740/940/780/760/240 turbos have some exhaust housing to wastegate housing leakage when cold in this same area.
