lights dimming, check engine light on 850 1996

I've had a history of electrical problems with my 850 GLT (66.5K miles, I've owned it since August). First a blown headlight, then a dead battery (replaced).

Now it starts fine, but when I put it into Drive and take off, the lights (both inside and outside) will dim for a second, and then get bright again. It goes through this cycle for the first minute or two, then the lights are fine. I've had the alternator replaced, thinking it was a bad voltage regulator, but the problem persists.

My check engine light is on, too. The code points to a bad air pump (looks like a common problem) -- could this be related to the problem with the lights?
