Unlike the transmissions of yesteryear, all new trannies are now run by computer. Your computer has found a fault and turned on error code. It cannot be 'fixed' by disabling something. The fault must be corrected.

Usually the solenoids get dirty because of lack of a good flush and the solenoid gets stuck. It can be removed and cleaned or replaced, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than removing and replacing the transmission.

Let the shop know the error code. It could also be a cheap wiring issue if there was a gorilla in your engine bay.

Dealers will not open the transmission to replace the soleniod. It makes them more money if they just repl the tranny and charge mega bucks.

As for driving, it is OK to do so if there are no uphills at stop signs or traffic lights. Once you get to 20mph or so, there is very little drag on the torque converter.
