Dead battery and weird cooling fan 850 1996

Hi,

I have a '96 850 STD SDN with just over 70,000miles on it. I bought it from my friend who haven't had any serious mechanical problem for the last 4 years.(He was the original owner.)

This morning, I found that the car wouldn't start. I made sure all the

lights(in/out)off before I went into my apartment last night. I did jump start and ran the car for several minutes to recharge the battery. But when I restarted the car for the test in a few minutes, it was already dead. The same thing happend when I tried over and over again.

My friend said it might be alternator problem or it might have some electrical defect which drain the battery gradually. He recommended me to go to dealershop for full computer diagnosis or something. Is it the best I can do under this situation?

I also actually realized that the cooling fan was working even after I turned off the car.(I haven't noticed this symptom before.) It did run for a few minutes after I turned off my car and stopped. After that I couldn't start the car. I don't know why a few minutes of cooling fan operation can fully drain the battery.

I found a person(owner of S70 which is upgraded version of 850 I think) who post the same problem here more than a few years ago only to get no kind replies. I wish I had better luck than that owner this time.

I would greatly appreciate any kind of opinion or story from your own

experience.
