Re: Tapping Noise in the Engine 850 95

How about a bad rod bearing? I had a tapping that didn't go away, but got worse. I called mechanic from car. He asked if oil light was on - I just had an oil change that day so oil was not a problem. After a few more miles the sound became unbearably horrid - tapping plus squeaking. I pulled over and had the car towed. I'm now told that I lost a rod bearing and damaged the crankshaft. The labor cost to fix it approaches a new motor - hence, the Volvo Dr. recommends a new motor, to the tune of $6500. My 95 850 GLT has 98,000 miles. This is uncharacteristic for a car expected to go 300k plus. Still undecided on my course. Be wary! Anybody know on this? KG
