got another question S40-V40 2001

as i was driving home hearing my airbox making its new sucking sound(i removed the foam)a thought crossed my mind.when i installed my k&n panel filter it made a small improovement.so i thought that the motor needs more air.the small snorkel coming out of the air box looks smaller than the air intake tube and throttle body, shouldnt it be larger, isnt this a restriction.then another thought,if the cone type filter moves more air then why dont we all use it.then i answered myself, the air is hot under the hood......but isnt the turbo hotter.isnt a properly designed intercooler supposed to cool the intake charge,if so the small increase in temperature should be cooled by the intercooler too.what is everyones thought on this.im no mechanic or engineer just wondering if the increase in airflow of the cone type filter is better
