s60 headlight trouble S60 2005

have an 05 s60 with a weird headlight problem. thought the pass side headlight was bad, changed bulb still didn't work. bulb is ok and have power at the plug. plugged in bulb with power on and the bulb lit, but had a bulb failure message. turned power off then on and noticed that the light came on for a couple of seconds and went out. turned power off removed bulb and checked plug with power on and had power. again, plugged bulb in with power on, and it would stay lit. i read a couple of other strings and read about a possible bad shunt relay. could this be the culprit?? any ideas???
