Scientific test? Well I think the filter does make a difference off the line, sure it might not show any improvement on the dyno. But that's because all the dyno's I know start after 3000rpm!

Even K&N doesn't recommend a Cone filter for the S/V40. A good intercooler increases a turbo's output by 20-25%. Throw some heat into your intake from hot air under the hood and watch you lose about 5% output. Let say you do put a cone on, add some heat shields, keep your air vent blowing on the cone. Now you might have 1-2% more output at higher rpms vs the normal K&N at most! Just my estaments for a chip 200+hp car.
