Re: Snow Chains S40-V40 2000

Look at your owner's manual. There are "low" clearance chains available... if I recall they have a special SAE number/rating. I'm not sure what the owner's manual specifically recommends but it will give you an idea at what types to look for. Plus, I don't believe your dealer is going to even sell you Volvo branded chains... ask them to show them to you (out of curiousity). You may be able to find the same ones else where.

Look below for details -Alberto

Here is what I found from the online manual for the 2000 40 series:

Snow chains

Snow chains can be used on your Volvo with the following restrictions:

· Snow chains should be installed on front wheels only. Use only Volvo approved snow chains.

· Snow chains may only be mounted on approved snow tires 195/55 R15. Consult your Volvo retailer.

If accessory, aftermarket or "custom" tires and wheels are installed and are of a size different than the original tires and wheels, chains in some cases CANNOT be used. Sufficient clearances between chains and brakes, suspension and body components must be maintained.

· Some strapon type chains will interfere with brake components and therefore CANNOT be used.

Consult your Volvo retailer for additional snow chain information.
