Volvo hitch - bike carrier problem V70-XC70 2001

From bitter experience with roof top bike carriers, I need to mount a bike carrier on the rear hitch. The Volvo (European) hitch does not accept regular North American bike carriers and Volvo Candada will not supply the existing Volvo European carrier for claimed safety reasons. So my questions are: Is the European Volvo bike carrier available in the U? (2) Does anyone know of any carrier available in North America that will fit the Volvo (round) hitch fitting? (3) If I can't use the Volvo hitch, is there a good North American hitch that will fit the 2001 XC pretty well. (3) what problems can I expect in the installation and wiring of an after market hitch? Incidentally, what is a good model of bike carrier for two bikes? I would appreciate any advice and experience. Thanks.
