Acceleration Impressions S40-V40 2001

I've seen many posts from S/V40 drivers who have claimed that their 2000s were most decidedly faster than the 2001s. I would have to agree with those who compared their 2000s to a 2001 with under 3000 miles on it. However, now that my 2001 has over 3500 miles on the clock and after comparing it to a well driven 2000 S40, I'm able to say for certain that the newer version of the two is a little faster. We're not talking 4 car lengths after 1st gear here folks. Just a slow steady increase in distance between the two cars as they accelerate from a standstill and while it's nice to have the Sport and Economy modes on the 2000, the 2001 is now (after 3000 miles) very quick to adapt to sudden changes in driving style. The extra gear is helpful in both acceleration from a standstill and keeping the revs down at highway speeds. Both cars are great but if you possess the patience to wait for your 2001 to loosen up you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how much the performance AND fuel economy changes when the engine has been completely broken in.
