Geartronic feature--Use it ? V70-XC70 2001

I'm interested in opinion on using the Geartronic feature of my new-to-me
creampuff 2001 V70T5, 114K mi,knowing that that year's AW55-50 transmission is the car's Achilles' Heel..
I've had the stop/neutral feature disabled, done a careful flush and, other than sprinking holy water, that's about as far as I can go. Transmission seems to be performing normally (for this week anyway)--no complaints from the Volvo Tech's test drive.
Should I 'baby' my transmission and let it do its own thing ? Just how tough is it? How mechanically stressful is 'sporting/fun' driving likely to be ? And there are, of course, plenty of occasions in 'normal traffic' where I'd select a particular manual gear. I'd sure appreciate your input, 'board'ers.
