Freeze warning dash light question V70-XC70 1998

OK. So it's REALLY cold here. About 9 below with wind chill. (Hey, my blood thinned from my Texas years, what can I say.)

So I left the garage, where the indicated on my dash was around 25 degrees. It started falling as usual. The Freeze warning orange light was on. Then, all of a sudden, the light went out! And remained out as the temp reading settled in at 16 degrees.

Question:

Does this light go out below a certain temp? At some point am I supposed to KNOW it's cold and any water I see is liley to be frozen (duh!)?

Or did I just happen to witness my bulb burning out? (which would be fine because it's kind of a dumb idea that I get tired of looking at, IMNSHO)

Brrrrrrrrrrr.
