Turbo to Catalytic Converter S60 2004

2004 S60R:

Over the last few weeks I started to hear what sounded like an exhaust leak...it was minor enough for me to put it off. That is, until today after work. I start my car and get what sounded like a Harley Davidson - yes that loud. On top of that, the car was now a moving gas chamber. I finally get home and crawl under the car expecting to find a crack or some type of damage.

But rather, I find the catalytic converter had become detached from the turbo. So my question is: how was this held in place to begin with? I see not lip at the edge of the pipe.
