Can't remove key! New to me '98 V70 V70-XC70

Hi,

I am a long time Volvo (240s, 940) owner, but this is my first V70.
Bought the car at an auction, and the battery is completely dead.
We jumped it to get it on the trailer to get it home.
Now I can't remove the ignition key. When we jump it, I can hear
whirring from the shifter area. I assume whatever is supposed to
tell the key that it's in park is not working. I think on the 940 there
is a cable, not sure on the V70.
Any pointers would be appreciated!
