OEM cargo cover squeaking V70-XC70 1999

Yes, the blasted squeaking! I wrapped a bit of thin cloth on the spring-loaded plugs on the cargo cover before inserting into the holes in the car trip panels. That reduces most of the squeaks. I think these 1998-2000 Volvos squeak more than most cars of this vintage. Why did Volvo do this?
